Boxing fans had plenty of jokes for Deontay Wilder’s lopsided TKO loss to Tyson Fury

Deontay Wilder went into Saturday night’s heavyweight championship bout against Tyson Fury with an undefeated 42-0-1 record. His lone draw was against Fury in 2018’s classic fight.

So, much of the expectation for Saturday’s fight in Las Vegas was for another classic fight.

Instead, boxing fans watched Fury absolutely dominate, knock Wilder down repeatedly, have Wilder bleeding for his ear (and proceeded to lick that blood). And then, Fury sang multiple verses of “American Pie.” It was as embarrassing for Wilder as it could have gotten.

Where their first meeting went the distance and nearly ended in a Wilder win by knockout, Wilder was out of sorts for much of this rematch. Wilder’s corner had to stop it in the seventh round out of concern for his safety.

But given the immense buildup to this fight and all of Wilder’s pre-fight talk, boxing fans didn’t go easy on the Bronze Bomber. They came in strong with the jokes on Twitter.
