Boxing fans fear Oleksandr Usyk would "destroy" Canelo Alvarez after defeat

Boxing fans believe Oleksandr Usyk would "destroy" Canelo Alvarez if the pair met at cruiserweight after the Mexican's defeat by Dmitry Bivol.

Alvarez made a switch back to 175lb where he was handed his second career defeat by Bivol who outpointed the Mexican in Las Vegas. Prior to the clash, Alvarez had talked up a potential meeting with Usyk at cruiserweight despite the Ukrainian having stepped up to heavyweight after he conquered the division.

However boxing fans have now advised Alvarez to avoid the unbeaten Usyk, with one fan claiming: "After the Canelo fight everyone needs to put Canelo vs Usyk to rest. Usyk would destroy Canelo. Also, you have to really be that dominated to squeak by a decision victory against Canelo. Boxing rigged as f***!"

Another fan agreed: "I hope people who were entertaining the Canelo-Usyk matchup realise now just how stupid that was." A fan also mocked Alvarez: "Canelo stay away from bigger guys. This fight proved he has nothing to do against prime 175lb boxers, especially if they are as good as Bivol. His punch power goes away. Imagine what Usyk will do to him, go fight other middleweights."

One fan hit out at a potential meeting being talked during fight week: "The Usyk-Canelo talk made my head HOT. So happy Bivol put an end to that nonsense, you have to learn some f****** respect in this game." Another fan concluded: "On the other note, we won't be hearing about Canelo fighting Usyk ever again.

"What an utterly ridiculous notion that was. Say what you will about this loss, but Canelo was overrated quite a bit. And I'm not just talking about the crazies."

Talks of a fight between Usyk and Alvarez first emerged after the Mexican was paired with cruiserweight champion Ilunga Makabu during a WBC convention. The Ukrainian reigned as undisputed champion at the weight before moving up to heavyweight where he has since become unified king.

Alvarez later laid out conditions for a potential meeting with Usyk claiming he would like the fight one pound above the cruiserweight limit. Canelo's promoter Eddie Hearn recently revealed: "When we talk about mindset and winning, he genuinely believes he can beat Oleksandr Usyk for the world heavyweight title. He said to me ‘if you can make that fight at one pound above cruiserweight [200lbs] I will beat him'.

"I find it hard not to believe him. Sometimes, the only way someone like Canelo Alvarez or Vasyl Lomachenko gets beat is when they keep moving up in weight outside of where they should be. That’s maybe how Canelo Alvarez gets beat, (when) it’s a challenge too far."

Usyk has stated his desire to meet Alvarez in the ring at his previous weight but would only consider a move if he is able to keep his heavyweight titles.
