Boxing Day weather forecast for Northern Ireland

Most of the pressies have been handed out and many of us have eaten our weight in Christmas dinner, but if you fancy walking off a few of those pounds this Boxing Day, the weather is looking rather promising.

It may be slightly overcast, but Met Office forecasters predict that we are in for a dry morning.

With the rain edging southwards later today, you may want to make the most of the opportunity for a wee walk with family earlier rather than later.

Northern Ireland has also escaped Storm Bella, which is expected to batter GB with strong winds and heavy rain on December 26.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "A cloudy but mainly dry morning with strengthening southwesterly winds. Rain reaching North Coast early this afternoon extending southwards to all parts later this afternoon becoming heavy this evening.

"Southwest winds becoming strong to gale force. Maximum temperature 8 °C."

Later tonight, they rain is expected to move away, although temperatures are expected to dip.

They added: "Rain moving away to the south early tonight then drier and clearer. Scattered showers will follow overnight turning wintry on high ground.

"Cold with fresh to strong westerly winds. Minimum temperature 2 °C."

As for Sunday, it is predicted there will be "bright spells and scattered showers" and the west may even get some snow!

"Showers becoming heavy at times, especially in the west with snow, mostly on high ground," they continued.

"A cold day with strong westerly winds, easing down later. Maximum temperature 4 °C."
