Police patrols and an air ambulance were dispatched to the lake in Walton Hall Park at 8.58am.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: “Emergency services were contacted at just before 9am following reports that the body of a male had been discovered in the lake.

“The male was removed and CPR commenced but he was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

“Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and notify his next of kin.”

The air ambulance has left the scene and police have cordoned off the area around the lake as officers attempt to establish the full circumstances of the man’s death.

Police are undertaking witness and CCTV inquiries and have urged anyone with details about what happened to contact officers by calling 101 or via Twitter (@MerPolCC).
