Boxer Michael Carruth hoping to add Dancing with the Stars victory to Olympic gold medal

Michael Carruth is hoping to add some glitter to his Olympic gold medal by signing up for Dancing With The Stars.

The boxer is best known for his success at the 1992 Games in Barcelona.

He is one of several big names already signed up to waltz on to the flagship RTE show next month.

Also signing up to the new series is RTE rising star and trained choreographer Lottie Ryan, the Irish Mirror can reveal.

Gerry’s daughter is currently the resident showbiz reporter on 2FM but also has a dancing background.

Another famous face from RTE taking part is former Nationwide anchor Mary Kennedy.

And former Big Brother star Brian Dowling won’t need any help with the fake tan or sparkle when he takes to the dance floor.

A source told the Irish Mirror: “You may think that Michael is going to play the part of the dancing Dessie Cahill, but he is an Olympic medallist so he has a real competitive streak.

“He is definitely going to be a dark horse for the title.

“He was a great get for the production team and will hopefully be a big hit with the audiences at home. Lottie Ryan comes from one of the great showbiz dynasties.

“She will not have any fear of the cameras and she knows how to dance and will raise the bar for the other contestants.

“Mary Kennedy is an RTE institution and will bring an element of style and sophistication to the show.

“But don’t be fooled, she is also a professional and a competitor and won’t be just turning up.

“Brian Dowling is the official king of camp and will bring a real fun element to the roster.

“He is moving back home from LA for the series so he means business.”

Casting is complete in series four and last week the new crop of hopefuls were introduced to their dance partners.

The four celebrities also join Glenda Gilson who was unveiled by RTE at the weekend.

The professional dancers will come in the form of Laura Nolan, Pasquale La Rocca, Kylee Vincent and Steven Vincent.

They join returning experts John Nolan, Karen Byrne, Robert Rowinski, Giulia Dotta, Kai Widdrington, Emily Barker and Ryan McShane.
