Boxer Martin Crossan claims unknown opponent should be running scared

Martin Crossan doesn’t know who he’s up against as he makes his boxing return on Thursday, but says his opponent should be running scared.

The 21-year-old is full of confidence heading into the bout, during St Andrew’s Sporting Club’s 50th anniversary season opener at Glasgow’s Radisson Blu Hotel.

Newarthill boxer Crossan has had four fights since signing up for St Andrew’s Sporting Club, culminating in a win over Dmitri Protkunas in June.

And he’s looking to step that up as he starts to eye up title shots.

Crossan said: “I don’t know who I’m fighting by this point, they just leave me in the dark, but I’ll prepare for the fight.

“Let them prepare for me – they can take me on, and worry about me!

“There’s no point in me over-thinking it, at the end of the day it’s what I do that counts.”

Crossan added: “I can’t wait for the fight. It’s a brilliant opportunity, to keep progressing my career.

“I’m happy with the way things have been going, and since I’ve signed with St Andrew’s I’ve had four fights in quite a quick space of time, so I’m building a good bit of momentum.

“This is my first six-rounder, so it’s stepping up the level a wee bit, and I’ll just get more and more into the pro game and then progress from there again.

“Hopefully next year at some point we’ll start to kick on and start to look for opponents to try and get titles and things like that, but for the moment I’m just kicking on and upping the rounds, so it’s all going according to plan so far.”
