Boxer Katie Taylor relishing Leeds bout and tells of Elland Road childhood memories

As Josh Warrington gets set for an emotional homecoming, Katie Taylor is also relishing what will be a special night fighting in a city that means a lot to her.

The Irish-born champion will take on Jennifer Han at Headingley in front of supporters as she tries to defend her lightweight title.

Despite growing up in Bray, a small town in Ireland, Taylor has spent plenty of time visiting Leeds and watching her beloved Leeds United at Elland Road.

An Olympic gold medalist, the 35-year-old has racked up some impressive achievements in his boxing career, including five World Championship triumphs and that London 2012 win.

This could be one of Taylor's most memorable fights though and she has opened up about her admiration for Leeds and her best childhood remembrances.

Speaking to talkSPORT, she said: "I’m really excited about it actually. This is actually the first time I’ve fought in front of a live crowd.

"To have a chance of actually fighting at Leeds, my father is actually a proud Leeds fan, so to have a chance of fighting here.

"My best memories as a kid is actually visiting this city and going to Elland Road and watching a Leeds United game.

"To actually have a chance to fight here is very, very special for me."

Taylor is currently unbeaten in 18 bouts and is targeting a mega fight against seven-time world champion Amanda Serrano next year.
