Boxer Gervonta Davis charged with domestic violence after allegedly 'battering' ex-girlfriend

Baltimore boxer Gervonta Davis has been charged in Florida after a video circulated on social media of him in a physical altercation with a woman at a celebrity basketball game in Miami last weekend.

Davis, 25, was "battering his former girlfriend" whom he also shares a child with, during the game Saturday, according to the Coral Gables Police Department. He is charged with simple battery and domestic violence and he has turned himself into police, the department said.

Davis is seen in the video with his hand close to the woman's neck, forcibly removing her from her seat before leaving the court with her and two other men.

Police said investigators were notified through social media, as well as the victim.

Davis previously posted on Instagram, "I never once hit her. yea I was aggressive and told her come on ... that's the mother of my child I would never hurt her ... "

His representatives were not immediately available for comment Tuesday.

Davis previously was charged with assault in at Virginia mall last February, but the case was later dropped.

Davis, who now lives and trains in the Atlanta area, has a 23-0 career record with 22 knockouts. He won the World Boxing Association lightweight title with a 12th-round knockout of Yuriorkis Gamboa on Dec. 29 in Atlanta.
