Boxer and TV pundit Barry McGuigan's daughter Danika dies aged 30

The daughter of former boxer Barry McGuigan has died aged 30 after battling cancer.

In a statement, the family of actress Danika McGuigan's said they were devastated by her death "after a brief but brave battle against cancer".

Known as Nika, she appeared in several films as well as TV and theatre productions - reports Belfast Live

In the statement, issued through actors' agency The Agency, her family said: "It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our beautiful daughter and sister, Danika "Nika" McGuigan.

"After a brief but brave battle against cancer, Nika passed away peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday 23rd July, surrounded by her loving family.

"As a family we are devastated and ask for complete privacy during this difficult period to allow us to grieve for our Nika. 

"The McGuigan family."

Danika was McGuigan's only daughter alongside her three brothers Shane, Jake and Blane.

Barry won the featherweight world title in 1985 when he beat Eusebio Pedroza at Loftus Road, home of Queen's Park Rangers.

He went on to found Cyclone Promotions which represents current world champion Josh Taylor who is trained by Shane.
