Bowring Park and Golf Course offer far more than the standard putting facility.
England's oldest municipal is a stunning expansion of greenery that feels like a hidden gem in an otherwise lonely part of Huyton. Known to the masses as just a golf course, it's quite a surprise to discover the area packs so much more than a few caddies.
To mark the one-year anniversary of its rejuvenation, the park welcomed visitors to experience a glow-up perfect for the summer. As soon as you pull up to the grounds you're met with two buildings: a quaint and stylish taphouse and a cosy event space, neither of which take away from the beauty of the surrounding area.

The size of the park is difficult to initially determine because of the trees that border as far as the eye can see but there are acres to lose yourself in.
Families and pets are invited to wander the grounds free of charge in what the management hope will bring the community closer together. Sefton Park is the typical go-to for a Sunday stroll but Bowring offers a refreshing change to the norm. Though Bowring is primarily known as a golf course, it brings to the plate a unique range of activities and experiences for everyone to enjoy.
Free Mamafit HIIT sessions, classes teaching people how to stay connected with technology, gardening clubs and even snack chats where people converse over food have all been arranged at the facility. The majority of past events were free-of-charge drop-in evenings to help move the park in a new direction.
Over £1m has been injected into the park and golf course, most notably with the new playground, improved drainage, the retail offer, new signage, refurbishment of the stables and a more appealing events and meeting space.
The transformation is instantly noticeable as the funding has transformed the once downtrodden grounds into a flourishing expanse of greenery and life perfect for the summer months.
There is already plenty planned for the remainder of 2023 and beyond, including a second playground, renovating more of the remaining buildings on the park, as well as the site's first wedding which will take place next month.
For anyone who wants to simply swing their club, Bowring offers monthly-rolling memberships, five-day and seven-day annual memberships, so whether someone is just starting out or looking to join a new course, golfers of all abilities and experience are welcome.
