Bow Wow apologizes for performance at packed Houston club amid COVID-19 pandemic

Hip-hop artist Bow Wow said sorry after a performance at a crowded club in Houston put him in the dog house.

Video circulated social media last weekend showing the rapper onstage at the Cle nightclub, where many audience members were not wearing masks, despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a series of tweets Tuesday responding to criticism, Bow Wow said it was not his concert.

“Heres the TRUTH: My only statement. 1. It was not a bow wow concert. I simply did one verse to like you. And went back to my section and simply put my mask BACK on,” Bow Wow, 33, wrote. “2. I did not i repeat did not GET PAID for anything. It was my boys 30th bday weekend and i came down off the love.”

He continued in a separate post, “3. I apologize if i did anything wrong. I love the city of houston. I consider it like a 2nd home. A place i go to on my free time. 4. Sorry to the mayor for any confusion. I understand the time we are living in so I apologize.”

Earlier in the week, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner tweeted that the situation was on his radar, and urged any artists to reschedule in-person concerts.

“Other bars/clubs that are operating as restaurants, beyond capacity and social distancing requirements, please expect visits,” Turner tweeted Sunday. Today we report 1964 new cases and 17 more deaths.”

Following the apology by Bow Wow, whose real name is Shad Moss, the mayor tweeted he is looking forward to “attending his concert myself in Houston” after the pandemic.

“Much love mayor!” Bow Wow replied. “Once again im sorry if i caused any disruption. I didnt mean to. All love! And i love the city of houston with all my heart. I got your front row seats to the millennium tour when we hit Toyota center. God bless.”
