Hundreds of people have been evacuated after a gas leak close to the Cadbury World tourist attraction.
Fire crews from were called to the scene in Bournville Lane, south of Birmingham, at around 2.15pm local time.
Up to 800 people were evacuated from the local area and many Cadbury staff were sent home as a precaution.
The Bournville Place research and development offices were affected by the incident, the firm confirmed.
Dozens of emergency crews and gas engineers arrived to help with the incident.
The response began after workmen accidentally damaged a pipe with a digger, Birmingham Live reported .
West Midlands Fire Service said on Twitter : "Emergency responders later confirmed that of a gas leak on the Cadbury site off Bournville Lane rather than the Cadbury World tourist attraction.
"10 firefighters remain at the Cadbury's site, Bournville Lane, Birmingham where a mechanical digger is believed to have ruptured a gas main. We're working with gas engineers and on-site staff.
"Several hundred workers have been evacuated from near the leak as a precaution.
A West Midlands Fire Service spokeswoman said earlier: "The suspected gas leak appears to be near Cadbury.
"We had a call at 14:15pm, and two crews from Kings Norton and Bournbrook were sent to the scene.
"We are currently awaiting the arrival of gas engineers.
A spokeswoman for Modelez International, who own the Birmingham Cadbury site, confirmed a number of staff had been sent home.
"During routine work at our Bournville site, a third party operator damaged a gas pipe.
"The fire service and gas board are in attendance at the site to coordinate the repair and make sure the area is safe.
"As a precaution and on the advice of the emergency services, we have sent home some staff who were located in areas of the site that are in close proximity to the incident."
"We expect the issue to be fully resolved and normal service resumed by tomorrow."
