Bournemouth vs Newcastle United: Lee Ryder's Premier League prediction

Newcastle United must shake off any FA Cup blues and refocus ahead of their trip to AFC Bournemouth.

With the possibility of extra European places, a win on the South Coast could put United just three points behind Burnley who occupy an eighth-placed spot that could gain entry into Continental competition next term.

Steve Bruce will urge his players to address the aim of securing safety first and foremost but there is still more to play for than just staying up,

Lee Ryder's prediction

The Magpies have drawn 2-2 in the last two seasons at the Vitality Stadium with both results prompting mixed reactions.

There was devastation when Rafa Benitez's side threw away a 2-0 lead in 2018, and then joy as he rallied his team to a comeback a year later.

With the opportunity to stave off any lingering threat of relegation this time I think Newcastle will go one better this time and edge three points but it won't be straight-forward with Bournemouth fighting for their lives.

Referee

Kevin Friend (Leicestershire)

Last took charge of a Newcastle game against Man United in a 4-1 defeat at Old Trafford on a night in which he issued DeAndre Yedlin and Fabian Schar with yellow cards.

Charity bet

Newcastle to pick three points at 9/5.
