Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson a Chelsea target, confirms assistant manager Gianfranco Zola

Chelsea assistant manager Gianfranco Zola has confirmed his club’s interest in Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson.

Cherries striker Wilson has been in exceptional form this season, scoring eight goals and providing six assists in 16 Premier League appearances, and earned his first cap for England, scoring in a friendly win over the USA.

Meanwhile Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea strike force have struggled to offer a consistent supply of goals, with neither Alvaro Morata nor Olivier Giroud having carved out a regular starting role at the tip of the Blues’ attack, a role increasingly being taken on by Eden Hazard.

Wilson will have a chance to prove his worth when Bournemouth visit Stamford Bridge for Wednesday’s EFL Cup quarter-final but the 26-year-old’s progress has already been noted by Chelsea.

“I'm sure that there are a lot of players that are linked with us,” Zola said.

“Certainly Callum Wilson is doing very well for his club and he is of interest, not just for us, but for many.”

Former Coventry striker Wilson signed a four year contract extension at the Vitality Stadium in July.
