Bournemouth stage comeback with two late goals to beat Ipswich 2-1

Substitute players Enes Unal and Dango Ouattara secured a thrilling 2-1 victory for Bournemouth against Ipswich Town on Sunday, denying the home supporters their first Premier League triumph of the season at Portman Road.

With 24 points, Bournemouth ascends to eighth position, whilst Ipswich remains in the relegation zone at 18th place with nine points from 15 matches, four points below safety.

Ipswich's league losing streak extended to three matches, whilst Bournemouth, under Andoni Iraola, continued their positive momentum following recent victories against Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

"We definitely didn't deserve to lose, we had great chances but just failed to take them, especially in the first half," Bournemouth coach Iraola told the BBC, acknowledging his successful substitutions.

The match began intensely, with Ipswich's Sam Morsy and Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez receiving facial injuries, whilst Sammie Szmodics delivered a forceful tackle on Adam Smith.

Ipswich dominated early proceedings, taking the lead in the 21st minute through Conor Chaplin's precise finish from Cameron Burgess's assist.

Bournemouth's performance improved towards the interval, with Marcus Tavernier striking the post and Justin Kluivert being thwarted by Burgess's defensive intervention.

The visitors increased their intensity after halftime, persistently pressing for an equaliser. Despite creating numerous opportunities, they were repeatedly denied by resolute defending and Arijanet Muric's impressive saves against Antoine Semenyo and Ryan Christie.

Unal eventually equalised in the 87th minute with a header off Burgess. Bournemouth's persistence culminated in Ouattara's decisive strike in the fifth minute of additional time.

This victory, Bournemouth's first against Ipswich since 1990, positions them three points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.

Regarding potential top-four aspirations, Iraola remained grounded, stating: "I don't think we have to look at the standings, it's too early. The most important thing is trying to win and then we see how many points we can get by the midway point."
