Bournemouth reignite interest in Brentford's Chris Mepham as transfer talks begin

Bournemouth have reignited their pursuit of Brentford defender Chris Mepham.

The Premier League club have reopened talks with the west Londoners over a deal for the 21-year-old, also thought to be of interest to Southampton, after failing to come to an agreement in the last two windows.

The Cherries, who have already spent £19million on Liverpool’s Dominic Solanke this summer and added Nathaniel Clyne on loan, have been chasing the Welsh international for over a year now.

Brentford, though, have proved tough negotiators over the past 12 months and talks remain in the early stages, while Bournemouth will have to stump up significantly more than the £10million they have seen snubbed in the past with the Bees chasing a deal worth up to £20million including add-ons for the promising defender.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth remain firm in their stance that they are not looking to cash in on Callum Wilson. West Ham have added the striker to a list of potential January replacements should Marko Arnautovic leave this month, though Standard Sport understands reports of the club slapping a £75million price tag for the one-cap England international are wide of the mark.
