Premier League footballer Jordon Ibe was reportedly robbed at knife point after thieves rammed into his car in London.
The AFC Bournemouth and former Liverpool midfielder was driving near Surrey Quays in south east London when a vehicle collided with his car.
After getting out the car, he was allegedly threatened with a knife by one of the thieves while another man waited in their car. The pair then drove off with the footballer’s Rolex, reportedly worth £25,000.
The Independent understands police are investigating whether the suspects intentionally collided with the victim’s car in the incident on November 7.
A club spokesperson told The Independent: “AFC Bournemouth are aware of the recent incident involving Jordon Ibe and are providing him with any support and advice he needs at this time.
“We take the safety of our players very seriously. There is a constant security presence at the Vitality Stadium and training pavilion, and a number of other measures in place to ensure players and staff are working in a safe, secure environment.”
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
The Metropolitan Police said in a statement: “Police were called at approximately 20:00 hours on Monday, 7, November to reports of a robbery in Surrey Quays road, by Surrey Quays underground station, SE16 that had taken place earlier that day.
“The victim, a man in his twenties, reported that his car was in collision with another car at the location. An occupant of the other car got out and threatened him with a knife before stealing his watch. A second man remained in the suspect vehicle.”
The incident comes just weeks after West Ham striker Andy Carroll was the victim of an alleged attempted robbery as he drove home to Essex after a training session. A suspect has been charged in connection with the attempted robbery and is due to appear in court.
