Bournemouth manager explains delay in Manchester United starlet Ethan Laird making his debut

Ethan Laird needs further time on the training ground before making his Bournemouth debut.

That's the message from Cherries manager Scott Parker as the Manchester United graduate continues to adjust to life on the south coast.

Having spent the first half of this season in the Championship with Swansea City, the right-back completed a fresh switch to the Vitality Stadium earlier this month.

Since then, the promotion-chasers have played Yeovil Town in the FA Cup and Luton Town.

The 20-year-old made 21 appearances in all competitions for the Swans after teaming up with Russell Martin, once again, after the same manager signed him on a temporary basis for MK Dons last campaign.

United did not anticipate Laird heading elsewhere midway through the term. However, the Cherries made him an offer and the prospect of a new experience, playing in a different formation and the chance to win promotion was regarded as an ideal opportunity.

Speaking to Bournemouth Echo about Laird's absence from the team, Parker said: "They [Laird and James Hill] still need time on the grass and still need time with us."

After switching from Swansea to Bournemouth, the promising full-back said: "I'm happy. I can't wait to get started. We've got some games to win! [It's been] chaotic, but that's part of football. You get your head around things and focus on what needs to be focused on, which is Bournemouth now."
