Bournemouth interested in signing Shamrock Rovers ace Jack Byrne

Bournemouth are sweet on Jack Byrne.

But the Cherries are not alone as Stoke City and Colorado Rapids are also keeping tabs on the Ireland midfielder.

Shamrock Rovers star Byrne is out of contract at the end of the season but could stay with the Hoops.

He cemented his place in the Ireland squad under Mick McCarthy, and now Stephen Kenny, because of his league and European exploits.

The English transfer window closes at 11.00pm tonight, yet Byrne won’t be going anywhere at this stage.

But Mirror Sport understands that Bournemouth - relegated from the Premier League last season - will continue to monitor the situation.

Former Rovers boss Michael O’Neill is also an admirer of the Hoops playmaker as Stoke eye up potential targets.

And MLS side Colorado Rapids also have Byrne on their watchlist.

Ex-Manchester City youth Byrne was in sensational form in Friday’s 4-0 win over Sligo Rovers.

He scored one and set-up Graham Burke with an outrageous assist from distance.

And while Rovers skipper Ronan Finn hopes that Byrne stays put, he won’t be surprised if clubs try to snare him.

“It’s between the club and Jack if they can come to some sort of arrangement of keeping him here. I’m sure he’ll have a few offers,” said Finn.

“He’s at a great age, he’s going to be coming into his prime in the next two, three or five years so maybe a club in the UK or across Europe are looking at him.

“For us, you want to keep him, you want to keep your best players and Jack is one of them. You saw against AC Milan he can handle it at the highest level.”

Byrne was overlooked for Ireland’s Nations League games against Bulgaria and Finland last month.

But Kenny has picked him for the upcoming games against Slovakia, Wales and Finland.

And yesterday, the Ireland boss said: “Jack is in the squad on merit because he has played very well.

“Of the players in the picture, in that position of high in midfield as a creative passer, you have Connor Ronan who is at Grasshoppers of Zurich.

“He's been injured of late and they’re playing in the Swiss second division. Alan Judge at Ipswich is just coming back from an injury.

“And Will Smallbone is trying to establish himself at Southampton. They're the players who play in a similar position to Jack, so he’s in the squad on merit.”
