Bournemouth confirm one player has tested positive for coronavirus

One AFC Bournemouth player has tested positive for coronavirus, the club revealed on Sunday.

In an official statement released via their official website, the Cherries confirmed that the unidentified player - who will not be named due to medical confidentiality - would now enter a seven-day period of self-isolation as per Premier League protocols.

"Following strict adherence of the Premier League’s return to training regulations, the club’s training ground remains a safe working environment for players and backroom staff, who will continue to be tested for Covid-19 twice per week," Bournemouth said.

Bournemouth's statement comes after the Premier League confirmed on Saturday night that the second round of testing on 996 players and staff from top-flight clubs conducted across 19-22 May had produced two positive tests from two different clubs.

That took the total number of positive tests in the Premier League over the last week to eight, after the first round of testing on 748 people from 17-18 May produced six confirmed cases across three clubs.

That initial number included Burnley assistant manager Ian Woan and Watford defender Adrian Mariappa plus two unnamed members of Hornets staff, all of whom are now self-isolating and were not included in the latest figures.

It remains unclear at this stage from which club the remaining three positive tests came.

Last week, all 20 Premier League clubs resumed restricted group training after voting unanimously in favour of implementing phase one of 'Project Restart'.
