Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe responds to Callum Wilson Manchester United transfer rumours

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has played down speculation linking star striker Callum Wilson with Manchester United in January.

United have been struggling to find the back of the net after allowing both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to depart in the summer transfer window without replacements.

Marcus Rashford and Daniel James lead the scoring charts with three goals each and injuries to key players have forced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to throw Mason Greenwood into first-team action.

Solskjaer admitted that United would be exploring forward options when the transfer window reopened in January and reports have linked Wilson with a potential move.

The Englishman has netted five goals in nine Premier League appearances so far this season, impressing Gareth Southgate to earn a call up to the senior England national team.

After congratulating his forward on his call up, Howe was asked whether he was surprised at reports suggesting Wilson is on United's radar in January.

The Bournemouth manager said: "I take it with a pinch of salt, to be honest, at this stage in the season.

"There's nothing that we can do or Callum can do, other than perform well, that influences rumours.

"He's just got to focus on his next game and give his best for this club."
