Bourke Street 'trolley man' in custody after alleged burglary

A Melbourne man referred to as "trolley man" after his attempt to help police in this month's Bourke Street terrorist attack is now in custody.

Police say Michael Rogers has been charged and detained over an alleged burglary in East Melbourne two days ago.

The 46-year-old has been charged with burglary offences and theft.

An online fundraising campaign raised more than $150,000 for Mr Rogers after he won widespread praise for attempting to fend off Islamic-State inspired terrorist Hassan Khalif Shire Ali by ramming him with a shopping trolley in Bourke Street.

He was remanded in custody and is due to return to the Melbourne Magistrates Court on December 17.
