Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita and his German counterpart Heiko Maas have discussed in Berlin arrangements for the Intergovernmental Conference to Adopt the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, scheduled in Marrakesh this month.
Bourita highlighted the great development in bilateral ties and the expansion of commercial and investment exchange. Mass stressed that Morocco is a key partner not only in migration but also in several fields.
In the same context, Bourita held discussions with German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s refugee policy coordinator Jan Hecker on Thursday.
The meeting focused on Merkel’s participation in the two-day Marrakesh conference that is scheduled to be held on December 10, Germany’s efforts to make it successful, and Moroccan measures to tackle migration through a comprehensive approach.
The conference, which will be attended by head of states and prime ministers from around 189 countries, has a special significance for being the first of its kind to be organized under the supervision of the UN. It aims to lay a framework addressing migration topics based on a multi-dimensional approach, and to come out with a reference document on migration.
A Moroccan diplomat said that Germany views Morocco as a key partner in the stability and peace of the Mediterranean Region, and praises its role in the region’s development.
The two states share a common vision towards an African continent capable of handling the challenges of stability, security and sustainable development.
