Bourbon County beers to take over taps at Roots Pizza

Jan. 06--For those who struck out getting Goose Island's Bourbon County family of beers back in November -- or those who simply didn't want to stand in long lines to buy beer -- Roots Handmade Pizza is offering a reprieve.

The West Town location (1924 W. Chicago Ave.) will pour all six 2015 Bourbon County variants on Jan. 26, beginning at 6 p.m.

That includes on draft:

Bourbon County Brand Stout

Proprietor's Bourbon County Brand Stout

Bourbon County Brand Regal Rye Stout

Bourbon County Brand Coffee

Bourbon County Brand Barleywine

All will be available in 9 ounce pours for $12.

Twelve bottles of Rare Bourbon County Brand Stout will also be for sale, for $100 each. If that sounds like a lot of money for 16.9 ounces of beer, well, it is. But Goose Island sold Rare for $60 per bottle at its Rare Day event in November. It's a pricey beer, and Roots' markup is about standard.

Roots will host another rare beer event on Jan. 19 at its new location near Lincoln Square (2200 W. Lawrence Ave.) when it taps Founders' Canadian Breakfast Stout -- an imperial chocolate coffee stout aged in bourbon and then maple syrup barrels -- at 6 p.m. as part of a brewer tap takeover. Those pours will also cost $12 per nine ounces.
