Boundary dispute in SC: Karnataka CM not above apex court, says Maharashtra deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis

MUMBAI: No one is bigger than the Supreme Court, not even the chief minister of Karnataka, said Maharashtra Dy CM Devendra Fadnavis as the boundary dispute between Karnataka and Maharashtra continued to simmer.

Fadnavis speaking to the media in Mumbai on Thursday said the dispute has been around since the time of state formation and since then Maharashtra has been firm on its stand.

"In the country there is a Constitution and the Constitution has given rights to the states. We have approached the Supreme Court and placed all the evidence before it. The apex court will give an appropriate decision in the matter," he said, adding no one was bigger than the Supreme Court.

"No matter what claims he makes (Karnataka CM B Bommai) not a single village from Maharashtra will go there. It is our expectation that our boundary areas will come back to us. I did not dare anyone. All I said that Belgaum, Karwar, Nippani, all these villages will remain in Maharashtra and the Supreme Court will give us justice," said Fadnavis.

The Dy CM said the Congress had been in power at the Centre, in the state and in Karnataka longer than the BJP yet it had not been able to resolve the boundary dispute. "The boundary dispute till date has not become a party dispute and should not happen either," he said.
