A massive boulder the size of a house has destroyed a section of a highway in Colorado.

Two giant boulders fell onto the road close to the town of Telluride on Saturday following a large rockslide.

One of the rocks destroyed the full width of the highway and left a trench approximately eight feet deep across both lanes, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) said in a Facebook post.

No one reported was injured in the incident.

The road is closed for an indefinite period of time as crews are working to clear, repair, and rebuild the road.

"CDOT officials are extremely pleased with the outcome," the agency said

The boulder was estimated to be 2.3 million pounds and was demolished via explosives by CDOT construction crews.
