Bottlenose whale confirmed as mystery animal swimming in River Clyde

After some speculation, the mystery animal spotted swimming in the River Clyde has been confirmed by experts to be a bottlenose whale.

Earlier today, Glasgow Live shared video of the animal splashing around near the centre of Glasgow, prompting suggestions a shark had potentially made its way to our city.

Meanwhile, others suggested it was merely an otter or a seal out on the Clyde.

We put the call to our readers to ID the unknown creature and many of you responded to report it was a whale, which has since been confirmed to be the case.

It's understood the Northern Bottlenose breed of the species has made its way down from Garelochead where a pod of whales was recently sighted.
