Bottled water given to nearly 40 homes in Lanarkshire town as burst main causes main road to close

A burst water main in a Lanarkshire town has caused one of its main roads to close.

Scottish Water is currently carrying out emergency repairs on the issue in Carnwath which has affected up to 38 homes.

It means the main road through the town has been shut off, and affected residents have been given bottled water in the meantime.

Teams are on site investigating the burst on a four-inch main and a full road closure is in place to carry out the repair.

A section of the A70 through Carnwath will remain closed to allow engineers to access and fix the damaged section.

A signed diversion is now in place and road users are urged to expect delays and allow extra time for their journeys.

Approximately 38 properties are affected as supplies have had to be shut off to prevent further damage to the carriageway and flooding to adjacent properties.

Bottled water is being provided until the repair is completed.

Georgina Reid from Scottish Water told Lanarkshire Live: “Our teams are working hard to carry out this essential repair and we would like to thank all of those affected for their patience and understanding.”

Traffic management arrangements and the diversion have been agreed with South Lanarkshire Council and Bear Scotland. These will be removed as soon as it is safe to do so.
