A Bothwell woman was over the moon to receive an OBE from the Queen.
Gillian Docherty was totally surprised when she received a letter saying that she had been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for her services to information, technology and business.
She is chief executive of The Data Lab, an innovation centre with a mission of maximising the value for Scotland from data.
The Data Lab facilitates partnerships between industry and academia, supporting data science and artificial intelligence projects as well as funding and running ground-breaking education programmes.
Gillian is passionate about the opportunity for using data to drive economic and social benefits.
And the mum-of-one is no stranger to being recognised for her hard work, as last year Gillian was named Digital Leader 2018 for the UK.
The 46-year-old was also named CEO of the year at the Digital Technology Awards 2017 and was again recognised in the UK’s top ten most influential people in data according to DataIQ.
Gillian is on the board of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, is a trustee of Beyonder Involve Charity and an industry advisor to Previse.
And she also has a degree in computing science from the University of Glasgow, and an Honorary Doctorate from Robert Gordon University.
Speaking about receiving the honour, she said: “I was shocked, surprised and very much delighted to be recognised.
“I also have an eight-year-old daughter Charley who is so excited too!”
