Bothwell Bridge emergency incident – Report of person in Clyde treated by police as 'malicious call'

Police have confirmed a "malicious call" was made claiming a person fell into the water at Bothwell Bridge last night.

The report at around 8:50pm sparked a large-scale emergency response – with eyewitnesses on social media describing seeing a heavy police presence, fire crews and an ambulance in the area.

A police helicopter and lifeboats were also seen scouring the Clyde in vain for over an hour to trace the individual.
