Bothwell badminton star Kirsty Gilmour crashes out of Denmark Open

Kirsty Gilmour crashed out of the Danish Open at the first hurdle, after being drawn against Japanese star Nozomi Okuhara.

The world number four, who is second seed at the tournament, defeated Gilmour, who is currently ranked 27th 21-7, 21-19.

Gilmour says she went into the match with a positive attitude, but was just missing that killer instinct.

She said: "I went in with a positive attitude. I know this match was about attitude for me.

"It is really hard for me to know where I am at training, because I am mostly playing against the boys and it is tough to compare. I think everything I was doing was correct, I was just missing that last shot to win the points.

"Denmark Open has done a good job to keep as much normality as possible. Obviously, we all have to make these small adaptations with masks and sanitiser everywhere.

"I think the biggest compromise from the players' perspective is the limited crowd. It is not a massive complaint, because I know it is so necessary, but as long as we are all back playing, I do not think we can complain too much."

Meanwhile, Motherwell's Alex Dunn and Adam Hall from Mauchline are through to the men's doubles second round after defeating American duo Phillip Chew and Ryan Chew 21-15 21-11.

They will face German duo Jones Ralfy Jansen and Peter Kaesbauer, Germany, in the second round.
