Bothwell badminton brothers receive Scotland recognition

Brothers Michael and Anthony McGuire have been called up to represent Scotland in badminton.

Michael (16) has been selected for the World Junior tournament in Russia in September, which runs over 17 days.

He is the youngest of Bellshill coach Robert Blair’s eight-strong squad, with the team event taking place from September 30-October 5, and individual events, which culminate on October 13.

Badminton Scotland CEO Keith Russell said: “I would like to congratulate the eight players chosen to travel to Russia.

“We have named a very strong team, which has a good mix of some very experienced junior internationalists, combined with some of the younger players, who are really starting to show their potential.”

Anthony (13) represented Scotland at the Under-15 Four Nations Quadrangular at the University of Warwick from April 26-28, a squad which also included Motherwell’s Matthew Waring (12).

Both brothers attend Glasgow School of Sport.
