Both puppies dumped in a bin before Christmas have now died

The second of two dogs dumped in bin before Christmas has now died.

The 11-week-old puppies, later named Parsnip and Sprout, were rushed into care last month after they were found, riddled with fleas, diarrhoea and mange, by a member of the public in Aberthin, near Cowbridge.

The pair - believed to be hound crosses - were also severely underweight and, despite receiving urgent medical attention, Parsnip passed away a week later (December, 17) having tested positive for parvovirus.

Sadly, staff at Hope Rescue Centre in Pontyclun have also been unable to save his brother Sprout, who had to be put down by vets on Christmas Eve.

"We're devastated to let you know that we made the difficult decision to let Sprout go this morning," posted centre staff on Facebook.

"He started being sick overnight and was in pain. It wasn't the right decision to continue.

Rescue centre staff say the dogs were the product of backyard breeders and puppy farmers (Hope Rescue)

"We can't thank the wonderful team at Maes Glas Vets enough for everything they did for Parsnip and Sprout."

The message went on to thank the thousands of people who'd contacted the centre to lend love and support to the two puppies.

"We weren't sure whether to update with such sad news before Xmas or not, but we've received so many messages asking for an update," it added.

"Please be assured that we will continue our fight against backyard breeders and puppy farmers in 2022, and we will make sure Parsnip and Sprout's tragic story is heard."
