Both Dolphins quarterbacks struggle on Day 4 of training camp

The Miami Dolphins have been bracing for a long, lengthy battle at the quarterback position. Ever since Miami finalized the trade to bring in young quarterback Josh Rosen, it was apparent that this team was going to need plenty of time to figure out exactly what they have and exactly how they need to proceed.

And after the first four days of training camp, we don’t appear to be any closer to a solution. The first two days of camp were shaded towards veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick before Rosen rebounded to have his best practice with the team on Saturday.

Sunday’s practice provided no clarity — and not because both the contenders were lights out. As a matter of fact, all accounts on hand in Davie said the same thing: both the Dolphins passers had a bad day at the office.

Whether it was Ryan Fitzpatrick’s mishandled exchange and a near interception to Xavien Howard or Josh Rosen’s penchant to check down, the Dolphins offense suffered their most stagnant practice of 2019 on Sunday.

An off day today will come in useful for Miami to collect their breath, recalibrate and attack the upcoming week with renewed focus after the first salvo of practices favored Ryan Fitzpatrick. The big question from here is when do the Dolphins decide to give Josh Rosen reps with the first team? Through the first week, it was been predominantly Ryan Fitzpatrick taking reps with the ones — if the Dolphins hope to get a clear view of what Rosen can bring as a starter, they’ll need to let him run with the starters.
