Boston Tea Party to permanently close Bristol café

Boston Tea Party has announced it is closing another of its Bristol cafes.

Having closed its Clifton Village site, which will reopen as an Eat a Pitta restaurant in December, it has revealed its Whiteladies Road café will also be shutting permanently.

However there is good news for fans of the independent chain, which started out in Bristol before expanding across the UK, as it will open a new cafe in the building previously home to River Cottage Kitchen on Whiteladies Road in 2021.

The group will amalgamate the two cafés into the new 150-cover site, with staff from the Clifton Village and Whiteladies Road sites coming together to open the doors "early next year".

Boson Tea Party CEO and co-owner, Sam Roberts, said: “We’ve long since admired this beautiful building, built in 1894 and within the demise of the Grade II listed St John’s church, so when we heard it was available, we jumped at the chance.

Boston Tea Party on Whiteladies Road will reopen when the second lockdown ends in December, before closing permanently ahead of the move.

River Cottage Kitchen, which was headed up by celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, closed in February 2020.
