Like old-new Boston Celtics big man Al Horford, guard Josh Richardson spent a year with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2019-20. The two franchises faced off in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs that year, with the Celtics coming away with a sweep of the Sixers. As a former participant in the Celtics – Sixers rivalry, from the Philadelphia side, Richardson said they did not quite focus on the rivalry when he was there during a press conference Thursday.
“From when I was there, Joel shut all that down. It’s like they always kick our [expletive], so it’s not a rivalry so we’re not treating it like that,” Richardson said. “So, it wasn’t really much of a rivalry; you’re just like, ‘These guys are good. They’re coming in here to whoop us, so let’s compete.’”
Richardson entering his first season with Boston after averaging 12.1 points per game with the Dallas Mavericks last season.

He figures to contribute to the Celtics guard rotation alongside Marcus Smart, Dennis Schroder, Romeo Langford, and Payton Pritchard.
