Boston Celtics third-year swingman Jayson Tatum joined elite company with his performance against the Utah Jazz.
Becoming just the sixth Celtic in Boston’s history to score 250 points or more in an eight-game span, the Duke product shares that accomplishment with Sam Jones, John Havlicek, Larry Bird, Paul Pierce and Isaiah Thomas, according to Statmuse’s Justin Kubatko.
Since being named an All-Star, the Missouri native has been on an absolute tear, evidently only needing the confidence that recognition provided to make the jump to superstar levels of production.
In the month of February, Tatum has averaged 30.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3 assists per game while shooting an absurd 50% from 3-point range.
The St. Louis native’s teammates are also thriving under the cover his offensive florescence is providing, and with eight of the team’s last ten games wins, it’s not hard to understand why.
When the wins roll in along with accolades from the league’s best players, it’s hard to look away from the acrobatic plays Tatum is unleashing with almost startling regularity.
While a comparative return to earth may yet still occur, the growth we’re seeing has been with skill and length, not dumb luck.
Meaning the steps Tatum’s taken to join that elite group of Hall-of-Famers and Boston legends was by no means a fluke, nor likely to disappear any time soon.
