Boston’s Jayson Tatum comes in sixth in 2022 Kia Most Valuable Player award

All-Star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum came in sixth in the voting for the 2022 Kia Most Valuable Player award with eight fourth-place votes and 19 fifth-place votes from a panel of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters for a combined total of 43 points, per the NBA.

Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets (875 total points), of course, won the award, with Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers (706 points), Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks (595 points), Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns (216 points) and Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks (146 total points) were voted higher than Tatum in that order.

The balloting, tabulated by the independent accounting firm Ernst and Young LLP, is the first to include Tatum in the top 10, though if the St. Louis native continues growing his game as he has thus far in his career, we very much doubt it will be his last.
