Boston’s Daniel Theis explains how the Celtics will adapt defensively without Robert WIlliams III

The Boston Celtics will need to find a way to reproduce at least some of what starting center Robert Williams III has been doing for them this season to help them build one of the most daunting defenses seen in ages to see playoff success until the Louisiana native can return.

And while there has been some optimism he might be able to return sooner than later, much of the responsibility to be the next man up will fall on the shoulders of old friend Daniel Theis. The German big man talked about how the team will fill in the gaps without the Timelord to start the 2022 NBA Playoffs after practice on Friday, but made it clear that while the team would do their best, there was also a limit on what could be done in his absence.

“In general, nobody does what Rob can do,” explained Theis. “His rim protection, playing way above the rim helps the whole team just in case there’s a mistake.”
