Boston radio hosts spew baseless take on how Cam Newton will fit with the Patriots

It took exactly one day for a Boston radio show to ask a ridiculous question about Cam Newton signing with the New England Patriots.

The Felger & Mazz show on 98.5 The Sports Hub wondered if Bill Belichick would put the kibosh on Newton’s celebrations after touchdowns — from dabbing to the Superman — and Michael Felger hoped that the coach would.

Did he ignore the fact that we just shared proof from A Football Life: Bill Belichick with a speech in 2009 showing the New England Patriots coach encouraging players to celebrate big plays? Maybe he didn’t know about that.

But then what about the fact that Rob Gronkowski spent his tenure in Boston spiking footballs with all of his Hulk-like strength? That’s quite a double standard you’re putting out there. And to say “Shut up and take the next snap?” So much worse.

The proof that Belichick encourages players to celebrate should be enough. But as NFL Network’s Rich Eisen noted, Newton’s celebrations include handing footballs to young fans. He’s not only playing with joy, he’s inspiring kids!

The Felger & Mazz Twitter account later retweeted — and perhaps endorsed? — Eisen’s tweet, which makes this all more confusing:

I would hope watching the Belichick speech would help, but they shouldn’t have gone there in the first place.
