Boston high school shooting: One teen killed and three others wounded in attack

One teenage student has been killed and three others were injured in a shooting that took place outside a high school in Dorchester.

A 17-year-old male student at Jeremiah E Burke High School High School was killed in the attack, two other teens were injured and a 67-year-old woman sustained a leg injury when grazed by a bullet, police said at a press conference on Wednesday.

Commissioner William Evans said that police have launched an investigation into the city's 13th homicide this year. “When a 17-year-old is shot and dies on the street when leaving school, we should all be outraged,” Commissioner Evans told reporters.

Nearby, both Dearborn STEM Academy and Lilla G Frederick Pilot Middle School were both placed on lockdown following the shooting.

Victoria Johnson, a 17-year-old junior at the high school, said she re-entered the school after the fire drill went off. “He gave me a hug and said, ‘Stay safe, Victoria,'” she told Boston.com, adding the boy typically said this. “Out on these streets, you have to stay safe… Even outside of my school.”

People who live near the high school said they were shocked by the violence.

“It’s hard to believe,” Marlene Mena, 30, told the Boston Globe. “There are a lot of kids out during the day. There is usually a patrol car on the street, when school lets out. You don’t really hear this during the day.”
