Boston College (4-3) vs. Syracuse (3-5) Game Preview
Why Boston College Will Win
The power running game continues to work. Whether it’s the 250-pound AJ Dillon or the 240-pound David Bailey, the ground attack has the ability to take over games against teams not named Clemson.
Dillon was on a tear of four games with more than 150 rushing yards in five – with a 118-yarder thrown in there and highlighted by a 223-yard day against NC State – and he even ran for 76 yards and the lone score in the wipeout loss to the Tigers last week. Bailey can bring the pop, too.
The Syracuse run defense hasn’t been bad overall, but that’s because it hasn’t faced a whole slew of great running teams. When teams are able to get it going – like Florida State was in last week’s win, or when Maryland and Clemson took off – it’s not pretty.
BC’s formula at this point is simple. Run, keep running, and run even more, because …

Why Syracuse Will Win
There’s really no BC passing game.
Anthony Brown is out for the year, and Dennis Grosel has been a bit lacking – to be kind. The sophomore can run a little bit, but in his three games since taking over he has hit 18-of-53 passes for 270 yards. He did throw three touchdown passes against Louisville, but Syracuse isn’t going to lose a wink of sleep over dealing with the BC air show.
On the other side, this is when Tommy DeVito has to go off.
The Syracuse passing attack has been a massive failure at times, but DeVito has a few 300-yard days and had a nice stretch of 11 touchdown passes in four games.
The Boston College pass defense doesn’t exist. It’s getting destroyed or over 300 yards on a regular basis with 20 touchdowns allowed do far. The Eagles are dead-last in the ACC in pass D which is why they’re dead last in the league in third down stops.

What’s Going To Happen
Here’s the problem – Syracuse should win this, it has to win this, and it has the makeup to win this, but it just doesn’t seem to know how to win.
There’s a reason the two victories came against Western Michigan and Holy Cross, and it starts with the offensive line that’s not doing a thing to give DeVito a chance to work.
The Boston College offensive line will be fine, the running game will be great, and it’ll be a decent win in an entertaining game, even if it’s not played at a high level.
