Boston Celtics officially add point guard Arnas Velicka to Las Vegas Summer League roster

The Boston Celtics have officially announced the addition of undrafted 6-foot-6 Lithuanian point guard prospect Arnas Velicka to their 2021 Las Vegas Summer League roster after second-year floor general Payton Pritchard’s planned departure from the team to attend to a prior engagement.

Velicka, a ball mover with the sort of size the Celtics have not had manning the point in some time, last played for Löwen Braunschweig of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), which is the highest domestic league of Germany. There, the Vilnius native put up an average of 13.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game in 2020-21.

He shot 44.4% from the floor overall with Löwen Braunschweig, 34.8% from beyond the arc, and 71.9% from the free-throw line last season.

It is not clear where exactly he will fall in the rotation with point guards Carsen Edwards and Yam Madar still with the team and its aspirations to win a summer league title.

But, at the very least, his measurables and passing acumen give Boston a look at the point it can exploit against smaller lineups — and perhaps a potential look at a 2-way candidate.
