Bosses praised after giving each worker £1,500 pay rise to help pay bills

The bosses of a software firm have been praised by staff after they gave each person a £1,500 pay rise to help them with the cost of living crisis.

Joel Beverley, James Lintern and David Brandon, co-founders of RotaCloud, said they wanted to ease the pressure of rising bills following a huge influx of price hikes last month.

Energy bills were the biggest hit on household bills last month, after the regulator Ofgem hiked its price cap for those with typical use by £693 on April 1.

Families are also facing increased council tax bills, water bills, broadband and mobile costs and record petrol and diesel prices.

On top of rising bills, workers and employers are paying more in National Insurance following a 1.25 percentage point increase.

The pay rise for RotaCloud came into effect from this month, in a move that affects around 50 employees.

James Lintern, one of the co-founders of staff management software provider RotaCloud, said: “We’re all painfully aware of the increase in the cost of living, so as a business we wanted to help shoulder some of the pressure that everyone is feeling.

“As well as promotions and planned pay rises we wanted to give the whole team some extra support, so we’ve introduced a company-wide pay boost of £1,500, effective retroactively from the beginning of the month.

“We wanted the raise to provide everyone with a bit of immediate relief and reassurance, and hopefully it helps to combat some of the uncertainty a lot of us are feeling at the moment.”

The move has been applauded by members of staff.

One employee said on LinkedIn: “Massive shout out to RotaCloud who yesterday announced that every single one of their staff is getting a pay rise to help with the rocketing cost of living in the UK.

“The world needs more employers like this.”

Last month, we reported on another hero boss of an engineering firm, who gave each of his workers an extra £1,000 to help with the rising cost of living.

Matt Fletcher, managing director of Fletcher Moorland, gave the extra cash to 86 employees.

We've also seen how another boss gave each of his workers £750 to put toward their bills.

James Hipkins, 51, managing director of Emerys Timber and Builders Merchants, splashed out £45,000 in total on 60 members of staff.

Richard Stone, managing director of Stone Junction, has also awarded all his staff a £1,000 pay rise.
