Boss fumes as 'cheeky' staff member orders £20 drink at Christmas work do

When you're at a work Christmas do with your colleagues (and of course bosses!) the likelihood is that you'll try to remain on your best behaviour. You may want to let your hair down a little more than you would in the office, to let your colleagues get to know you a little better, but you'll still be mindful of not being too silly.

This behaviour also includes being generous, but not taking advantage of anybody who may be buying a round of drinks. One man was not in the good books of a team line manager, however, after he decided to order a £20 when it was her round. She took to Mumsnet to call him a 'cheeky g**'.

A Christmas party can be really fun with colleagues - but one woman wasn't happy with one of her co-workers (Stock Image) (Getty Images)

She wrote: "Light-hearted but...still irritated.

"Works Christmas do tonight. I'm the team line manager, but not paid massively more than the rest of them. I think - and they say - I'm a decent boss who protects them from pressure.

"Have bought thankyou Christmas gifts for all (15) and also thought I should offer to buy the first drink.

"Most people standard large glass of wine etc, one cheeky g*** (stood at bar and so placed his order direct, I was just stood with my card) - a large glass of red with a double brandy chaser. His drink alone was £20.

"I'd never do that - Diet Coke thanks and I'd buy my own expensive drink later!"

People were shocked at the man's audacity to order two drinks at the bar.

One wrote: "I think it’s fair enough to order the drink you'd usually drink if you were buying yourself, so I don’t think someone is being a cheeky f***** for not going for a Diet Coke.

"A large glass of wine or a double brandy would have been ok if that’s what they drink but two drinks is taking the p***."

Another commented: "Unfortunately if you offer there’s always the possibility of an idiot doing that."

Someone else said they had a similar anecdote, but with the roles reversed.

They recalled: "I'd say that's cheeky f***** territory but does remind me of my work's Christmas do years ago when myself and my colleague were sharing a bottle of prosecco and our manager asked if we wanted a drink.

"We said, oh don't worry we're on the Prosecco - it's expensive, but he insisted. Brought us a bottle to share, then moaned for months later about how expensive our drinks were. He was on nearly quadruple our salaries though so we didn't feel guilty", followed by a rolling on the floor laughing emoji.
