Borussia Dortmund players applaud empty ‘Yellow Wall’ after first game back

The Bundesliga returned on Saturday in Germany, and it didn’t take long for an explosive Borussia Dortmund squad to shake off the rust at home against Schalke. Dortmund scored four goals to cruise to a lopsided win and pull within a point of Bayern Munich at the top of the table.

The scenes at the Westfalonstadion were certainly strange, as no fans were allowed to attend this weekend. Dortmund is famous for having one of the home atmospheres in the world, with one stand known as the “Yellow Wall,” where 25,000 Dortmund fans typically create and incredible and imposing sight.

After completing their victory, Dortmund players walked over to where the Yellow Wall usually would be and applauded the empty stand.
