Borussia Dortmund make transfer claim after Jadon Sancho to Manchester United announcement

Borussia Dortmund are openly in the market for a fleet-footed winger to replace Jadon Sancho, as he finalises his big-money move to Manchester United.

A transfer four years in the making, England international Sancho — currently on Euro 2020 duty — is expected to be unveiled by the United shortly after the Championship.

Having played hard-ball in previous windows over Sancho, Bundesliga side Dortmund finally loosened their approach this summer and the clubs involved have already agreed a £72.9million fee for a player who has been directly involved in 114 goals across 137 games in all competitions.

That comes after he left United's neighbours Manchester City for Germany back in 2017.

Sancho was an unused substitute as England booked their place in the Euro 2020 final at the expense of Denmark last night. Aged 21, there is bound to be even more to come from the United-bound forward, too, but where does his impending departure leave his soon-to-be former employers?

Recently-appointed Dortmund coach Marco Rose spoke about his transfer plans in the wake of Sancho's sale.

He told Ruhr Nachrichten : "Basically, you can say first of all that we have a good squad. Of course, we also talk and discuss positions.

"If we had brought in all the players that are in the papers at the moment, [Hans-Joachim] 'Aki' Watzke wouldn't even have a button in his wallet. And we would have a squad of 46 players.

"I think it would do us good to discuss this internally and then see what else happens in terms of departures and possible additions.

"But one thing is clear; if you lose Jadon Sancho, then we have to look for a winger with pace who can go one-on-one. That's certainly a position where we still want to do something."
