Borussia Dortmund issue Jadon Sancho concern after Manchester United transfer saga

Borussia Dortmund chief Michael Zorc has voiced concerns over Jadon Sancho's fitness following the summer's long-running transfer saga with Manchester United.

United failed to wrap up a deal for the England and Dortmund right-winger despite making him their top target, with the German club unwilling to budge from their £108million asking price. Ed Woodward and United's Glazer owners came in for criticism as they signed young wingers Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo instead, and sealed a short-term deal for Edinson Cavani.

Sancho, 20, did not force a move and appeared content to remain at Dortmund for the season, though he's begun the new Bundesliga in sluggish form. He has failed to score in six league appearances and disappointed in his side's 3-2 defeat to title rivals Bayern Munich at the weekend, prompting Zorc to speak out.

"He has had better and more efficient games," Zorc told German media outlet Ruhr Nachrichten.

"He's lacking a bit of natural lightness at the moment. Of course we speak to him, but it's not something you can rediscover just by talking."

Sancho is expected to join up with Gareth Southgate's England squad this week for games against Republic of Ireland, Belgium and Iceland.

United have not given up hope of sealing a transfer for the former Man City and Watford youth product. They still view him as a long-term target and befitting of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's eagerness to pack his squad with young and homegrown talent.
