Borussia Dortmund hit back at Erling Haaland transfer speculation with future update
Borussia Dortmund have issued an update on the future of Erling Haaland amidst growing speculation over the striker’s future.
Barca president Joan Laporta’s reported confidence on signing the striker has sparked off what has been described as a ‘war’ between the club and El Clasico rivals Madrid.
The Norwegian fuelled speculation of a transfer to La Liga earlier this week as he confirmed that he would like to play in Spain during his career.
Dortmund have now issued an update on their stance in relation to Haaland, who reportedly has a £70million release clause that kicks in from this summer.
Sebastian Kehl, the club’s former midfielder who is now part of their sports management, has reiterated Dortmund’s ambition to keep Haaland beyond the summer.
Kehl has told reporters: “The plan is that when the time comes, we will get together and sit down at the table.
“But we are not going to announce when we will do that right now.
“What is clear, however, is that we are trying to achieve clarity.
“We are trying to persuade Erling to continue to play for Dortmund, and I don’t think our chances are too bad.”
There is little question over the 22-year-old’s world class status, as he has netted 76 goals in just 75 appearances for Dortmund since his switch from Red Bull Salzburg two years ago.
Manchester City and Bayern Munich are believed to be the other clubs who are monitoring Haaland’s situation, with the striker’s valuation becoming attainable this summer.
Last month, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke explained : “It doesn’t matter where you go, everyone talks about Erling Haaland.
“The only thing I know is that Real Madrid are very interested in his signing.
“I could name you other 25 teams, but I know for a fact that Madrid are interested.”
Haaland has continued to break multiple goal scoring records, netting 27 goals in 25 matches across his games in European competitions.
In the 2020–21 campaign, Haaland was integral in Dortmund's DFB-Pokal win, won the Bundesliga Player of the Season award and finished as the top scorer of the Champions League.
Speculation over the striker’s future is only likely to intensify in the weeks and months ahead as we edge towards the summer transfer window.
