Borussia Dortmund handed major Champions League team news boost ahead of Chelsea clash

Chelsea return to Champions League action next Wednesday with a trip to the Signal Iduna Park to face Borussia Dortmund.

The first leg takes place in Germany before the return fixture takes place three weeks later at Stamford Bridge. Graham Potter will be hoping to replicate the success Thomas Tuchel brought to the club in 2021 when he guided the club to their second European title.

Victory in the competition will also provide Chelsea with Champions League football next season, which looks unlikely to come about via the Premier League. The Blues are currently ninth after 21 games, 10 points off Newcastle in fourth, and have struggled to form some sort of consistency in their results.

Chelsea have one game before the trip to Germany - the London derby at West Ham on Saturday - but Dortmund are faced with two away fixtures . Tomorrow evening, they will aim to reach the DFB Pokal quarter-final by defeating VFL Bochum, before travelling to Werder Bremen on Saturday afternoon (2:30pm).

However, despite the busy schedule, Edin Terzic has received a much-welcomed boost in terms of the fitness of his squad. Injuries earlier in the season saw Dortmund suffer a string of disappointing results, but since the resumption of the Bundesliga campaign, the Black and Yellows have won all four of their games.

After having Sebastian Haller back from his fight with a malignant testicular tumour, Dortmund have now welcomed back Jilian Ryerson and Salih Ozcan. The pair played in last weekend's win over Bayer Leverkusen but there were concerns over their fitness ahead of the cup tie with Bochum.

Speaking prior to the clash, Terzic said: “It looks good. Julian Rysern and Salih Ozcan come back. Karim Adeyemi will be suspended, all other players are operational.”
